10 Makeup Tips That Nobody Told You About

It has taken me years to learn my face shape, what colors to flatter me, how much to apply, and how to apply it so that it looks beautiful and natural. But, I think I've finally perfected my morning routine!

You do not have to spend hours doing it, either. Once you have the know-how, you'll see just how much makeup can accentuate your best features. Here are a few things that you would like to know about long, long time ago!

1. Repurposed Plastic Spoon

Use a plastic spoon to easily apply mascara to your lower lashes without putting on the skin under the eyes. This also helps you to get a much thicker layer. Or, if you find that your under-eyes are a complete mess after applying eyeshadow and mascara.

2. Blush For Your Face Type

To apply the blush where you want it, first determine the shape of your face. Blush not only adds color, but also outlines and defines your cheekbones. The way you apply your blush can accentuate your best features and soften those that may be too important.

3. Scotch Tape Eye Stencil

This unconventional beauty assistant will guide you through the application of the eye contour and shadows, especially if you opt for a more daring look such as "cat's eye". It will also help you get a uniform and balanced look for both eyes.

4. Disguising Under Eye Bags

Most of us tend to just sweep a layer of concealer to the entire under eye area, but to really conceal bags, it’s best to highlight the crease and then apply a darker shade to the actual puffy area.

5. Eye Highlights

Glare placement is very important when trying to create a naturally beautiful eye makeup. Your lighter colors (whites, creams and pearls) should be applied to the inner corners, the middle of the eye and just under the brow bone. Apply your lighter colors first, then move on to your darker shades. Make sure to mix!

6. How To Fix Clumpy Mascara

Let's face it, this happens over time in every tube of mascara. The problem is that it dries up and starts to form unattractive lumps. To avoid this, do not use your mascara to try to have more on your magic wand; you pump air into the tube, drying it even faster.

Although mascara must be replaced every 3 to 4 months, I replaced mine much earlier simply because it dries very quickly and creates unwanted results. But there is an easy solution for that! Add one or two drops of Visine (or a mark of eye drops) to the tube, then rub the wand inside. The Visine softens the liquid mascara, making it apply as if it were a brand new tube!

7. Lipstick Ready

Use a baby toothbrush to exfoliate your lips and get rid of peeling skin accentuated by lipstick. To do the job well, you can make a homemade exfoliation with sugar, honey and coconut oil, or easier but less effective, cover your lips with a lip balm or a petroleum jelly before the scrub.

8. Make The Best Of Your Eye Shape

As important as your color choices are, the location of your shadows and liners is just as important: you can create just about any illusion of your choice! With a judicious placement, you can make your eyes appear wider, closer, deeper, deeper, and so on. Determine the shape of your eyes, then accentuate them accordingly.

9. Make Eyes Appear Bigger

If you do not already have a nude pencil, invest one now for this simple trick! Instead of doubling your water line with a black eyeliner, use a nude pencil to create the illusion of a bigger eye. If you look a little bit in front of this image comparison, you will see what difference it really makes. A white lining also works well if you are really light-skinned. Discover more details here.

10. Tightlining

What is tightening? It's a way to apply your liner between your eyelashes. It's a great way to feel like you're not wearing makeup, while adding a little color and definition to your eyes and giving the base of your lashes a thicker look. Discover all the details here.
